Measuring Guide For Window Blinds

  • All measurements should be provided in mm.
  • All our blinds are made with a 5mm manufacturing tolerance (width & drop).
  • Always use a metal tape measure when taking the measurements.

Auto Blind Sizing Disclaimer

Because measuring for blinds is the same as measuring for secondary glazing, the work has already been done in getting a quote and exacting fit. However, where the auto-size has been applied, you still need to check the sizes are accurate for your application.

We have used the sizes based on the information you have already entered for our secondary glazing systems.

We assume you have followed our recommended measuring guidance, applying a 10mm tolerance deduction from the tight sizes of the aperture.

Subject to the type of blind selected, there may be different tolerance applications, we have therefore reapplied the actual tight size aperture detail and will apply the appropriate tolerance for the blind type
selected.

You need to check that the aperture sizes confirmed are accurate for the specific window.

Please see our terms and conditions.

Standard Windows

Recess Size (in Reveal)

This is the measurement you need to make if the blind needs to fit inside the window recess. Measure the width and the drop in three different positions ensuring you provide us with the smallest measurement.

We will make any necessary deductions to ensure the blind fits neatly within the recess of the window.

Measuring Guide For Window Blinds - Standard Windows

Top tip for blackout blinds

Our fabric experts recommend when ordering a blackout blind, you fit this outside the window recess using the ‘exact’ blind measurement thus ensuring as much external light as possible is blocked out.

Top tip for vertical blinds

The headrail is included in the drop of the blind therefore the louvres will be shorter than the drop.

Measuring Guide For Window Blinds - Exact Size

Exact Size (Surface Mounted)

An exact size blind is also known as ‘pin width’ or ‘finished blind width’. This is the measurement you need to make if the blind needs to hang outside the recess overlapping the window. Decide how much you wish to overlap the recess at each side, we recommend at least 7.5cm at each side as well as the top and bottom so as to minimise as much external light as possible.

Measure the width and the drop in three different positions ensuring you provide us with the smallest measurement. We will not make any deductions from the measurements provided.

Cloth Size (Roller Blinds only)

Cloth size is the specific width of the fabric itself. When mechanisms and brackets are installed the overall width of the blind will be larger.

Simply measure the width and drop you require the fabric to cover. We will not make any deductions from the measurements provided.

Vertical Blind Louvres

Should you want to buy new louvres to use with your existing headrail, simply measure the length of the existing louvres from the very top of the material to the very bottom. We will not make any deductions from the measurements provided.
