Balanced Vertical Slider Aluminium Secondary Glazing

Starting from £395

Our range of vertical sliding secondary glazing units are made from high-quality aluminium, giving you long-lasting benefits over other options.

These vertical sliders have a smooth aluminium shape that lets panels glide easily. Our sliding units are perfect for fixing old sash windows, and they come with a few different choices:

  • Slide pass lets the panels slide all the way past each other, giving you access to and cleaning the whole secondary unit.
  • Tilt-in lets each panel move up to 180 degrees inward, giving you the best access.

Our collection provides improved thermal insulation and full acoustic benefits while keeping the look of the product. They are perfect for period homes and businesses, even listed buildings.

Product Features:
Panel Sizes can be specified to match the primary window sash sizes. They support glass thicknesses from standard glass 4mm thickness to ultra-panel glass thickness up to 10.8mm. Standard and acoustic trickle ventilation (allows air to trickle into a room to naturally ventilate the room) options available.

Size Guidelines & Production Viability

The ratios of Width x Height x Panel Size x Glass Weight affect the viability of unit production.

If the online estimate system can't figure it out, it will tell you if the unit is too big or too tiny, or it will propose glass upgrades. Check out Why Won't My Quote Calculate?

NOTE: The maximum sizes are dependent on the width OR height of each span, not both. Weight decides whether a panel size may be made.

Flat-packed units that are more than 1800mm in both dimensions are available. You can ask for flat-packed delivery, but it will cost more.

The maximum width is based on the weight and height of the panel. It may not be possible to construct some units in the maximum width and height given, and this should be made clear at the time of inquiry.

Vertical Sliders Specifications

SpecificationValue
Maximum Weight48kgs
Maximum Width1500mm
Maximum Height1800mm
Special Notes8mm glass minimum for very small units

Maximum width is determined by panel weight and height, it may not be possible to make some units in the maximum width/height specified and will need to clarified at point of enquiry.

  • Glass weight and do not exceed the maximum panel weight.
  • Maximum area for 4mm glass is 1.6m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6mm toughened glass.
  • Maximum area for 6mm glass is 3.0m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6.4mm laminated glass.
  • Flyscreens: maximum size 1200mm in one direction

If you need any more assistance, email us with sizes of the required unit.

Performance Recommendations

Installing Clearview Secondary Glazing is the best way to improve the effectiveness of insulation. After that, the glass can be fine-tuned to get the best results. We suggest the following for the best results:

For Sound Proofing

If you can get the air gap between the glass to be 100mm or more, that's great, but 150mm to 200mm is the ideal. Then, depending on how annoyed you are by the noise and your budget, you can pick a thicker glass. If your window design doesn't allow for a fair space, thicker or acoustic glass can help make up for some of this distance problem. You will lose performance if you compromise the air gap.

6.4mm Acoustic

Excellent for high noise; pairs best with 150–200mm air-gap.

acousticsafety

For Thermal Insulation

The air gap isn't as important, so we suggest a distance of 50mm to 80mm. The thickness of the glass is not very crucial for thermal insulation and will not do much to keep heat in or cold out. Low-E (low emissivity glass) can improve performance by 5% to 10% compared to regular glass. However, this depends on the condition of the main window.

Low E Toughened

Boosts insulation up to ~10% over standard; ideal 50–80mm gap.

thermalsafety

Condensation

The same thermal theory applies to dealing with condensation. Secondary glazing can't promise that the problem will be completely solved, but it has a very good track record of greatly decreasing the problem and making it easier to handle.

Low E Toughened

Improves inner pane temperature, reducing condensation risk.

Safety & Security

All of our glass alternatives meet BS EN 12600 standards for impact resistance. Toughened and laminated glass are great ways to improve security. Laminates, in particular, can deter intruders from trying to break in because they see a second layer of protection.

6.8mm Clear Laminate

Class A safety; strong deterrent and impact resistance.

Glass Options for Secondary Glazing

Clearview vertical secondary glazing comes with a variety of glass alternatives, such as toughened, laminated, and a choice of coatings that are hard to see. There are options for heat, security, soundproofing, and privacy. Our typical choice is 4mm toughened glass, which is safer and more secure and meets Building Regulations, of course.

It's easy to get confused about which glass is best for you because there are many options. People often think that the glass is highly vital for the performance, however it may not be as important as you think. When you compare costs without knowing all the information, you can pay more than you need to.

At Clearview, we aim to help you get the best guidance for your unique needs so you can get the best results without breaking the bank.
