Lift Out Secondary Glazing

Vision Lift Out Panel

Starting from £120

Lift out secondary glazing from Clearview is the most cost-effective type of secondary glazing in the Vision range. It is ideal where limited or no access to the primary window is required — for example, a non-opening decorative window or a window installed purely for light.

As the name suggests, each unit lifts out of a secured sub-frame channel using an Easy Lift Fin, making removal and refitting simple without tools. Every sash is manufactured with a double brush pile seal for enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation, helping to keep draughts out and heat in.

Available in portrait, landscape and arched-top configurations to suit almost any window shape. Lift out units can also be used alongside other Clearview systems for a premium glazing solution across a building.

Weight guidance: We recommend keeping individual pane weight below 25 kg for safe manual handling. As a guide: 4mm glass = approx. 10 kg/m²; 6mm and 6.4mm glass = approx. 15 kg/m². Fixing materials are not included. All units are covered by Clearview's 10-year guarantee.

Colour and glass can be changed at the next stage.

Size Guidelines & Production Viability

The ratios of Width × Height × Glass Weight determine whether a unit can be manufactured and safely handled.

We recommend keeping individual pane weight below 25 kg for manual handling. The online price calculator will flag if the unit falls outside standard production limits or requires a glass upgrade.

Important: Maximum sizes are governed by the width OR height of each span individually, not both at once. Always verify at point of enquiry for very large panels.

Units over 1800 mm in either dimension can be delivered flat-packed at an additional charge.

Maximum width is determined by panel weight and height, it may not be possible to make some units in the maximum width/height specified and will need to clarified at point of enquiry.

  • Glass weight and do not exceed the maximum panel weight.
  • Maximum area for 4mm glass is 1.6m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6mm toughened glass.
  • Maximum area for 6mm glass is 3.0m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6.4mm laminated glass.

Performance Recommendations

To get the best results from your lift out secondary glazing, consider the following performance guidelines:

For Sound Proofing

An air gap of 150 mm to 200 mm gives the best acoustic results, but anything over 100 mm will provide a meaningful improvement. For windows close to busy roads or transport links, a laminated acoustic glass (6.4 mm, 6.8 mm or 10.8 mm) will enhance performance significantly. A wider gap can compensate for thinner glass if space permits.

6.4mm Acoustic

Excellent for high noise; pairs best with 150–200mm air-gap.

acousticsafety

For Thermal Insulation

For thermal insulation a gap of 50 mm to 80 mm is usually sufficient. Glass thickness has relatively little effect on thermal performance — Low-E (low emissivity) glass can improve results by 5–10% where the primary window is in good condition. Standard 4mm toughened is a cost-effective choice for most thermal and condensation applications.

Low E Toughened

Boosts insulation up to ~10% over standard; ideal 50–80mm gap.

thermalsafety

Condensation

Secondary glazing is one of the most effective remedies for condensation on cold inner panes. By raising the surface temperature of the existing glass, condensation is significantly reduced or eliminated in most cases. Lift out units are particularly popular for bathrooms and utility rooms where fixed ventilation is less critical.

Low E Toughened

Improves inner pane temperature, reducing condensation risk.

Safety & Security

All glass options supplied meet BS EN 12600 impact resistance standards. Toughened glass provides robust everyday security. If the window is a potential entry point, laminated glass provides an additional deterrent as it holds together when broken rather than shattering cleanly.

6.8mm Clear Laminate

Class A safety; strong deterrent and impact resistance.

Glass Options for Secondary Glazing

Lift out units can be supplied with a full range of glass options including standard toughened (4 mm, 6 mm), acoustic laminated (6.4 mm, 6.8 mm, 8.8 mm, 10.8 mm) and Low-E coated glass for improved thermal performance.

For windows where thermal insulation or condensation control is the primary goal, 4 mm toughened is normally the best value option. If noise is the priority, upgrading to an acoustic laminate makes a significant difference. Our team are happy to advise on the right glass for your specific situation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can lift out units be used on opening windows?

Lift out units are designed for windows where regular opening is not required. If you need to open your window for ventilation, consider our horizontal slider or hinged casement range instead. That said, lift outs are very quick to remove when needed — it takes seconds to lift the panel clear.

How heavy will my unit be?

Glass weight depends on the pane size and glass type. As a guide: 4mm glass = approx. 10 kg per m²; 6mm and 6.4mm glass = approx. 15 kg per m². We recommend keeping individual panel weight below 25 kg for comfortable manual handling. Our glass weight calculator on this page can give you an estimate.

Are fixings and trims included?

Fixing screws and finishing trim are not included with lift out units. These are readily available from DIY retailers, or you can contact our team for recommendations. Our Help Centre includes a detailed fitting guide covering what you will need.
