2 Panel Slider

Starting from £285

The most common type of secondary glazing is horizontal sliders. That's because the horizontal slider secondary glazing range is multi-functional and can be used in any kind of building.

Horizontal sliders work in a wide range of building types from low or high-rise properties, to listed and heritage buildings across the UK.

Scientists have shown that this type of building gets rid of drafts. Choosing security locks and knobs can make things even safer.

You can get horizontal sliders in a lot of different sizes and with two, three, four, or five panels. You can match the sizes of the panels to the main window structure.

Product Features:
Clearview's Horizontal Slider units are available in our Vision Series in 2,3,4 or 5 panel versions.

Size Guidelines & Production Viability

The ratios of Width x Height x Panel Size x Glass Weight affect how easy it is to construct units that meet your demands.

If the online estimate system can't figure it out, it will tell you if the unit is too big or too tiny, or it will propose glass upgrades. Take a look at Why Won't My Quote Calculate?

IMPORTANT: The maximum sizes depend on the width or height of each span, but not both. Weight determines if a panel size may be manufactured.

There are flat-packed units that are longer than 1800mm in both directions. You can choose to have it delivered in flat packs, but it will cost more.

The panel's height and weight set the maximum width. When you ask us about building some units, you should know that it may not be able to do so at the maximum width and height.

Horizontal Sliders Specifications

SpecificationValue
Maximum Weight80kgs
Maximum Width1200mm (4mm glass)
Maximum HeightUnits heights over 2000mm, min sub-frame 62x 16mm with HD Interlocker
Special NotesMax individual panel width 4mm glass 1200mm

Maximum width is determined by panel weight and height, it may not be possible to make some units in the maximum width/height specified and will need to clarified at point of enquiry.

  • Glass weight and do not exceed the maximum panel weight.
  • Maximum area for 4mm glass is 1.6m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6mm toughened glass.
  • Maximum area for 6mm glass is 3.0m². If panel size exceeds this, allow for 6.4mm laminated glass.
  • Flyscreens: maximum size 1200mm in one direction

Performance Recommendations

Our range of horizontal secondary glazing systems are the best way to improve your property's insulation. Our range can be altered thanks to the glass panels, in order to provide the best results possible. To get the most out of your installation, we suggest:

For Sound Proofing

Ideally an air gap of around 150mm - 200mm is what you want to aim for, but anything over 100mm will work well. The thicker the glass, the better the insulation from annoying noises, so consider this when choosing. If your window is an awkward shape or the space is small, then thicker or acoustic glass can make up for the small air gap. Keep in mind, you will lose some of the effectiveness with a smaller gap.

6.4mm Acoustic

Excellent for high noise; pairs best with 150–200mm air-gap.

acousticsafety

For Thermal Insulation

When it comes to the thermal insulation, the air gap is less important. A gap between 50mm and 80mm will work well for this. Along with this, the thickness of the glass isn't too important either and won't do much to insulate your property. Compared to conventional glass, Low-E (low emissivity glass) can make things 5% to 10% better. But this is only true if the main window is in good shape.

Low E Toughened

Boosts insulation up to ~10% over standard; ideal 50–80mm gap.

thermalsafety

Condensation

The same theory applies to dealing with condensation. Secondary glazing can't guarantee that the problem will be totally fixed, but it has a long history of making the problem much smaller and easier to deal with.

Low E Toughened

Improves inner pane temperature, reducing condensation risk.

thermalsafety

Safety & Security

All of the glass alternatives we offer exceed BS EN 12600 criteria for being able to withstand impacts. Toughened and laminated glass are both fantastic methods to make things safer. Laminates, in particular, can keep people from trying to break in because they see a second layer of security.

6.8mm Clear Laminate

Class A safety; strong deterrent and impact resistance.

Glass Options for Secondary Glazing

Our horizontal secondary glazing systems come with a wide variety of glass options available. These include toughened or laminated options and a choice of discreet coatings you can select. We usually recommend 4mm toughened glass since it is safer and more secure whilst meeting Building Regulations.

Due to the many options, people can get confused about the best one for their needs. People can end up overspending as they overestimate the importance of the glass, when they could have had good performance for less. Be sure you get all of the facts you need before you decide.

At Clearview want to assist you in getting all the advice we can for your specific needs. This means you may achieve the best possible performance without spending a lot of money.
